Shopping Centre management Education

About the Author:

Johan Olwage is a born and bred South African who spent his entire professional life in retailing and shopping centre management.
He has now taken all his learning experiences (good, bad or indifferent) and put it together in an easy-to-read guide which proves to be a valuable source of learning for those who are just starting their journey in managing the modern shopping centres of our time.

You have landed on this page because you are looking for good education in Shopping Centre management. You may either be new to the position of Centre Manager, or you may want to know more about the requirements of such a position.

Allow me to help you:

My definition of a Shopping Centre Manager is:

A Jack of all Trades but a MASTER at finding the right person (or specialist) for the job at hand.

The guide that you can purchase from this site is written of the back this definition. In reality, it is an impossible task for a Centre (or Mall) Manager to be a specialist in every function or discipline it takes to run a Shopping Mall. Yet, if you have access to the entire spectrum of specialists there is, then your job is as good as covered.

You, yourself may have come from some background that led you to the job of a Centre Manager. That may be financial, commercial, retailing, facilities management or any of a wide range of backgrounds that make you suitable for this position. but any background will not make you the “all-rounder” you need for the job at hand.

All you really have to master is to utilize the knowledge and skills readily available to you, to run your Shopping Centre effectively.

Whether you are brand new at this or somewhat experienced in managing Malls, you will find that I am making this as simple as possible in this guide going forward, but leave it filled with “gems of knowledge” that I have gained over many years.

What are these “specialist” aspects then?

Leasing

Operations (Facility Management)

Marketing

Financial and Administration (Performance Management)

Legal compliances

Management structure

This (easy to read) guide will touch upon the detail of all the above in a way that gives you a fair understanding of how it works as stand-alone functions and how you can use it as a collective to manage an efficient Shopping Centre.

Once completed, you can scan the QR code at the back of the book to come back for:

Description

My definition of a Shopping Centre Manager is:
A Jack of all Trades but a MASTER at finding the right person (or specialist) for the job at hand.
This guide is written of the back of my definition above, as it is an impossible task for a Centre (or Mall) Manager to be a specialist in every function or discipline it takes to run a Shopping Mall. Yet, if you have access to the entire spectrum of specialists there is, then your job is as good as covered.
As the student of this guide, you have come from some background that led you to the job of a Centre Manager. That may be financial, commercial, retailing, in fact any of a wide range of backgrounds that make you suitable for this position, but any background will not make you the “all-rounder” you need to be for the job at hand.
All you really have  to master is to utilize specialists correctly in order to run your Shopping Centre effectively.
Whether you are brand new at this or somewhat experienced in managing Malls, you will find that I am making this as simple as possible in this guide going forward, but leave it filled with “gems of knowledge” that I have gained over many years.
What are these “specialist” aspects then? In a broad sense it covers the following:

  • Leasing
  • Operations (Facility Management)
  • Marketing
  • Financial and Administrative Performance
  • Legal compliance
  • Management structure
  • You

The rest of this guide will touch upon the detail of all the above in a way that gives you a fair understanding of how it works as stand-alone functions and how you can use it as a collective to manage an efficient Shopping Centre.
